DTPBlender vs. Blender

For Blender users, here is a (probably incomplete) list of UI level changes that you should be aware of:

New / different key commands

  • GZ is used to layer (bring to front/back) stuff
  • C and Numpad DEL are swapped, i.e., C will centre/zoom on the current selection, and DEL does whatever C did before
  • CTRL-ENTER in text editmode will insert "half a line" - useful for dividing paragraphs
  • SHIFT-TAB in text editmode will insert a TAB. Yes, DTPBlender supports TABs, see settings in the editbuttons
  • CTRL-S in text editmode will interactively resize the current textframe
  • CTRL-G in text editmode will interactively move the current textframe
  • SHIFT-TAB in object mode will enter/exit group editmode
  • CTRL-G in object mode will call the grouping menu
  • Closing curves is now done with CTRL-C rather than C, so that center-on-selection also works in curve editmode
  • CTRL-clicking a layer number / layer button will make the layer active
  • Pressing W with a text object selected enables splitting the text to individual objects per character
  • CTRL-R in object mode reflows all text objects in the current scene
  • CTRL-F in object mode freezes the currently selected objects
  • ALT-F in object mode unfreezes the currently selected objects
  • CTRL-SHIFT-F re-freezes all frozen objects in the scene

Otherwise different behaviour

  • Borderselect (BKEY) only selects objects which are entirely inside the border
  • Borderselect can be invoked with a simple LEFTMOUSE drag. When invoked like this, it will clear the current selection instead of extending it (hold SHIFT if you still want to extend)
  • Some common object actions (delete, duplicate, link-to-scene, etc.) affect entire object hierarchies (all children of selected objects), not just the selection
  • Some other actions (assigning a material, changing a page number) will affect all selected objects automatically instead of just the active object
  • The cursor only appears when in "Around cursor" mode
  • When setting the cursor manually in any way, the "Around" mode is automatically switched to "Around cursor"
  • MIDDLEMOUSE pans the view instead of rotating it
